Extension

Unfortunately I have had to file for an extension as a lot of work has unexpectedly fallen to me in the past few weeks and I won't hand in something I am not happy with. At least with another two weeks I can get much closer to what I originally wanted to achieve with The Inked Ladies.

Updates:

  • The game now works scene-to-scene in the correct order

  • Cutscenes have been implemented

  • Cutscenes have been reduced and voice acting edited into a more playable game

  • Extra assets have been added, textured and implemented into the environment

  • UI has been re-designed to make it more appropriate

Things we couldn't fix in time:

  • UI scaling issue in unity when selecting button during the interactive narrative scenes

  • Unity scene loading up briefly between cutscenes

  • Lighting works but is not consistent

  • More complex textures would have been nice

  • Couldn't swap out character sprites in time for 3D animated models despite our tests

There are plenty more things I'm sure that we could pick up on but this is where the project will be left.

Reflection:

Looking back on the project I don’t think I documented my work particularly well. I would like to have included more screenshots and screen recordings of the processes I used, particularly when coding and 3D modelling for example. Especially in the later weeks I was so overwhelmed with work that I wasn't able to document the processes - I just needed to get things done. Unfortunately I feel like my teammate let me down on a lot of tasks throughout the project but it was a massive learning curve for the both of us and taking on more responsibility later in the project (final 6 weeks) forced me to learn quickly under pressure. Overall this has probably helped me, as it has exposed me to areas of the pipeline I didn’t have much experience in before such as coding, 3D modelling, texturing and pipeline management. As much as I have learnt, I would like to think in the future a lot of these mistakes will not be made again, as despite our best efforts to constantly scope and assess where we are, so many external factors came into play that we could never have imagined to account for.
